RSSC Architecture Completes Design for New Salvation Army Facility

It’s that time of year again where you’ll see red kettles and hear the ringing bells of The Salvation Army. These familiar sights and sounds remind us of the holidays and what they are truly about: giving to those less fortunate, being thankful for what we have, and celebrating the approaching Advent season.

As we go about our daily tasks and holiday shopping, we might not even realize how The Salvation Army provides much-needed services in our local communities. Not only do they serve everyone from youth to seniors, but they also act as a community center for education services, emergency services, and spiritual life.

The Salvation Army has about 40 locations throughout the Western Pennsylvania region, one of which is located in the North Boroughs.

RSSC Architecture has completed the design of a new facility for The Salvation Army North Boroughs Worship & Service Center, which is currently under construction. This new building will be a place of worship, offer youth programs, and have various social services available to the North Boroughs community.

Equipped with a chapel with seating for one hundred people, multi-purpose rooms, and a commercial kitchen, the facility will be open to the community with free programming. Afterschool programs, facility rentals, emergency assistance, and social service referrals give this location the flexibility to serve families spiritually and physically as the local Salvation Army church.

The kitchen will be able to provide light meals or snacks for adult small groups and afterschool programs. On occasion, there may be meals prepared for special events. The new facility will assist those living in the areas of Glenshaw, Bellevue, Avalon, Ben Avon, Emsworth, Millvale, Shaler, Northside Pittsburgh, Ross, West View, Kilbuck and Ohio Township.

The Salvation Army’s North Boroughs website states, “For all ages from youth to seniors, a variety of recreational, educational, and spiritual support services are offered. Each location provides unique programming according to the needs of the community. At any location, a family in need can walk through the front door and receive assistance specific to their individual needs from staff who will treat them with dignity and respect.”

Beyond the North Boroughs, The Western Pennsylvania Division Corps of the Salvation Army offers many programs that meet various needs within the western Pennsylvania region. Not only do they supply urgent relief and aid to those most in need; they also offer women’s ministries, prison ministries, teach music (how to sing and play instruments), and provide shelter. They provide disaster recovery, meals for the hungry, combat addiction, and share God’s love. They also assist the unemployed, equip families, fight human trafficking, serve veterans, help those with depression, offer holiday programs, stop domestic abuse, teach kids, and more.

When you see a bell ringer, this holiday season, remember that your charity goes a long way with The Salvation Army!
